Dear Mrs Roper,
                  On wednsdy night I have to do a shift lightin in for the GENTLEMEN comin ashore at whaxam and I need JOHN’s eyes and lugs for harkin out for peelers and revenue and dogs and such (on account of as how I am a bit mutt and jeff) then we have to whole up for the day in the dunes with the cargoe until its moved out Thursdy night so wot with one thing and another, it means that Boy JOHN wont be in schole on Thursdy due to where he’ll be sleepin watches turnabout with me and oblige N.S.

P.S. If we do get away early we might go over to the Norfolk SHOW.
